Deaf girl wins Miss Tourism Mombasa, 21-year-old Babelyn Mukila made history on Saturday as the first ever deaf model to win Miss Tourism Mombasa County. The beauty Queen competed in the previous edition without success, but vowed to not give up, just so she can show the world that disabilities are not limitations.
The model, Babelyn Mukila, defied all odds to emerge winner during the function held at Rizfar Hair and Beauty College. Having competed in the 2015 edition and emerged the first runner up, according to Mombasa-based Baraka FM The Mombasa Technical Training Institute student said she was elated that her dream to be crowned a queen had come true, and that she could showcase to the world that disability is not inability. She went on to say during an interview “We the deaf people rarely get opportunities to be represented in such events and we want to show people that we too can do this. My passion to represent the deaf society is what motivates me”.
Her friends and family, as well as the deaf community in the region were in attendance to cheer her on, and were equally excited when she emerged winner. Mukila will meet other finalists from the other 46 counties on Monday May 30 for a photo-shoot in Nairobi. They will all battle it out in June in Vihiga County, where Miss Tourism Kenya will be chosen, to represent the country at the international.
This is just one proof that indeed when you are determined nothing can stop you, congratulations to the new Royalty.
