The countries that have backed out of the pageant franchise are Indonesia, Vietnam, Cayman Islands, Ghana and Belize.

Miss Anne Jakrajutatip is a transgender woman who bought the franchise in 2022. She also bought the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants all for $20million dollars.

The Miss Universe title was first used in 1926 by International Pageant of Pulchritude. The contest stopped in 1935 with The Great Depression and World War 2.

The current pageant began in 1952 owned by makers of Catalina Swimwear.
