In September 2022 a young, petite lady kept a promise to herself. She wrote on her page some years before she made it happen, that one day she would be the champion of the world. She broke the world record at age twenty-five.
She set a new, world 100m hurdles record at 12.12seconds. A brand new record. She broke her own record same day at 12.06 seconds.
Her career actually began in her early teens. She travelled around her country representing her school and state, winning medals. From Warri in Delta state Nigeria to Lagos and then outside her country, in Addis-Ababa , Ethiopia. She blazed the trail as she won medals all the way.
She relocated to the United States to further her studies at the University of Texas in 2016. Shortly after she resumed school, she broke the thirty-three years old record of Kim Turner.
Through her victories, she was saddened by her father’s rejection of her passion for athletics. He burned all her sports kit and outfits when he could. However, she found a way around his displeasure. Her mother. She it was who covered up for her when she went for practice. She wiped her tears and strengthened her.
By the time she broke the world record, her father had come to terms with and finally accepted her passion and calling.
