AMAZONS OF QUEEN’S COLLEGE BARBADOS (1): PRIME MINISTER MIA MOTTLEY

These women are celebrated for blazing the trail like their counterparts in their sister school in Nigeria. They have carried the light to the highest peaks in their beautiful country, Barbados.

They also set vital goals for all women and girls to learn from. They show that focus and hardwork are key. The three women in focus are: Mia Mottley first ever female prime minister of Barbados, Director of Public Prosecution Donna Babb-Agard and Dame Sandra Mason the Governor General.

Named by The Financial Times as one of the Top 25 Influential Women of 2022.

Mia Mottley became the Prime Minister of Barbados in May 2018. She was elected into office by the citizens of her country.

Ms Mottley is not only the first ever female prime minister, she is also the leader of Labour Party in Barbados (BLP). She is the eighth Prime Minister of Barbados. At age twenty-nine she was the youngest minister in Barbados. She was Minister of Education and Youth Affairs in 1994. She was Minister of Home Affairs in 2001 , aged thirty-six. Again the first woman in that position.

She is fifty-seven years old. She is an ex-student of Queen’s College Secondary School. She has a bachelor’s degree from the London School of Economics and a Law degree from the University of London.
