ADVOCATE HABEN GIRMA

Advocate Haben Girma is the first ever deaf-blind student to attend and graduate from Harvard Law School. And she is of African descent. She is born to an Eritrean immigrant parents.

Haben Girma became visually and hearing challenged as a child. However, she benefited from the Disability Act growing up in America. So learning was easier for her and she was able to graduate highschool at the normal age of eighteen. Haben was not done.

Therefore, advocate Haben Girma went on to Lewis & Clark College. From here, she graduated as Best Student in 2010. And exactly eleven years ago in 2013, she made history in Harvard Law School.

Furthermore, Girma said part of the reason she became a lawyer so she can fight for physically challenged people. Her focus fight is for easy access to books and digital information for physically challenged citizens.

Also to demonstrate that visual impairment is not a hindrance, she went to Mali when she was fifteen years old. Not just to visit Africa, but to help build schools for underprivileged communities.

In closing, advocate Haben Girma is living life to the fullest. She goes rock climbing, cycling, dancing and kayaking. And she is a beautiful woman.
