Miss Universe 2024/5, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig of Denmark is in the news. People are judging this young Beauty Queen for lip-syncing to Jay-Z’s song. And these “judges” asked her to apologize for using the N-word in the song. Is this fair? Below is the excerpt she sang.
“Sittin’ courtside, Knicks and Nets give me high five
Nigga, I be Spike’d out, I could trip a referee (come on, come on, come on)
Tell by my attitude that I’m most definitely from.. “
Before we continue ladies and gentlemen, let us remember who Victoria Kjaer is. This lady clocked twenty-one years old a few days or some hours before she became Miss Universe 2024. And at this age, we expect her to love, sing and dance to rap songs or any music from any part of the globe.
Plus the internet makes the world so small that Miss Universe 2024/5 can even lip-sync BTS’ song. (BTS is a Korean pop group). Therefore, we should understand that it is merely a coincidence of lyrics. Besides, if an African queen, sings the same song, would it evoke the same reactions from all around the world?
The fact is that Miss Universe 2024/5, Victoria was bullied because she dared to enjoy her favourite song on social media. She has deleted the video from her social media handle, yet people are still making outrageous demands. These demands range from an apology, to a resignation and even a dethronement.
In addition, if some people are crying wolf where there is none, others should let us know there really is none. And of course, call a spade a spade. A queen sister is bullied and other queen sisters must speak up for her. That is what women supporting women is about and what pageants are for. For uniting women from every race and creed.
Meet Victoria
First, as a new adult, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig is already a trailblazer. She is the first Dane to win the Miss Universe title in seventy-three years. And the first blue-eyed blond to win any international pageant since 2001. Now who gives up such a special woman? Or gives up on such a gift? One Nigerian tribe call such women, “onye wuzo”- the path owner.
Finally, Ms. Kjaer Theilvig said in her winning interview, that no matter where you come from, who you are or what your past is, turn it to strength. That kind of beautiful mind, can only make history and she did. Victoria meant no harm. And we are ending this affirmation with Chidimma’s firm nod after answering her own winning question.
