REMEMBER DR. STELLA ADADEVOH

Many heroes do not wear capes, we remember Dr. Stella Adadevoh is one of them. On this day eleven years ago, our hero, gave her life for Nigerians. And she did this by physically keeping an infected Ebola patient quarantined.

Here is the story:-

Many who were adults and teenagers in 2014, are familiar with Dr. Adadevoh’s story of bravery and sacrifice. This is the narrative as we read in the media.

A certain business man of another African country, Liberia flew into Nigeria and headed straight to the hospital because he was quite unwell. Meanwhile, before then, the news of the infectious and deadly disease, Ebola already spread like wildfire in Africa. Africans were apprehensive because many of their countries did not have the facilities to curtail the disease.

Therefore, the best they could do was be cautious about visitors, create quarantine facilities, educate their citizens about the symptoms and hope for the best.

So the business man flew into Nigeria, sickly. As soon as he arrived the hospital, Dr. Stella Adadevoh, the physician on duty, attended to him. His symptoms were suspicious and so she ordered an ebola test on him. Meanwhile, she kept him in her sights.

But the restless business man was anxious to transact the business he came for. So, he tried to escape quarantine but was unsuccessful. However upon further questioning, the good Dr. Adadevoh realized that the man actually knew he had the deadly disease. Worse still, she realized that he did not care if everyone caught the bug.

So at this point, Dr. Stella made up her mind to keep him in check even if it cost her life. This amazing Amazon sent everyone else off and locked herself and the man only in the hospital. That woman single-handedly determined to lay down her life for everyone else.

Finally, she must have felt like, being in contact with him has given me the disease anyway and I am already on death row, why don’t i make this encounter count?

And Stella did, thus remaining unforgettable. We can not talk about how Nigeria escaped the Ebola pandemic, without mentioning Dr. Stella Adadevoh.
