FIGURE SKATER MABEL FAIRBANKS

Fogure skater Mabel Fairbanks grew up dreaming of becoming a figure skater, here in New York City. Unfortunately she was not permitted to join the professional figure skaters for a long time because of her race.

So Mabel continued to practice on a frozen lake in her neighborhood. Soon, someone saw how well she was doing and advised her to try out the rink at Central Park. She was so good that she decided it was time for her to join the professionals. Alas! The young lady was dismissed from all the available clubs because she was black.

Though hurt by this bias, figure skater Mabel Fairbanks returned to the rink. She did not stop perfecting her figure skating skills. Her figure skating performance got to the assessment of 6.0

Finally, one of the managers of the professionals’ club saw how well she skated. And then decided to give her a shot at the club and Ms Fairbanks proved her mettle. And from thence, she made such an impact that professional skaters became her teachers.

Figure skater Mabel Fairbanks was a super ice-skater, breaking the barriers of race. By the 1940s, she was a star.
