FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT OF NAMIBIA

Exactly a week ago, today’s celebrant, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah was sworn in as the first female president of Namibia. Thus making history and adding Namibia to the list of elite African countries. Because they have voted and proved to the world, that they see beyond sex or creed. A common feat in the first world countries. Enough gloating, let us meet our latest President.

Meet Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah:-

To start with, the first female president of Namibia is used to politics, freedom fighting and goverance. Do you know that when other fourteen-year-old girls were giggling about boys and makeup, Netumbo was in SWAPO?

SWAPO means South-West Africa People’s Organization. It was an independent movement created in 1960, to fight for the freedom of their people. And as early as 1966, Netumbo, a preacher’s daughter was part of this movement. That is not all.

Though protests were prohibited, young Netumbo joined the protests and agitation for freedom. At the time, flogging was part of the punishment for protesting yet our president did not stop. Then finally she got prison time at twenty years old. You would think prison scared her. Instead, Ms Nandi got more involved in the struggle. However, after another close shave, she went on exile. Where she became a SWAPO representative. Of course she did a good job of it, travelling all over East Africa and Europe, sensitizing people about their struggle for independence.

Victory:-

Also, it was during this twenty-six years period in exile that Netumbo completed her education and married a fellow freedom fighter. Then she finally returned home just before independence in March 1990.

At the first election, she won a seat in the House of Assembly where she worked for her constituency for four years. Later she served as a minister with different portfolios within fifteen years of Namibia’s independence. Before becoming vice-president from 2020 to 2024 and finally the President of Namibia.

If that is not rising through the ranks, what is? She practically spent all her life for Namibia and it would be well-suited to name her, “Mama Namibia”.

In closing, we congratulate Namibia and Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, NNN as she is fondly called. We celebrate you all for being the change Africa badly needs And we wish your beautiful country a successful and progressive period with NNN.

So people, which country would give us the next African, female President? Do share your expectations in the comments section below.
