Today’s celebrant is Violet Palmer of the NBA, who became the first African woman to referee an NBA championship in 1997. This woman paid her dues from way back.
Here’s How:-
In the beginning, Violet woke up every morning to practice her basketball moves. Every morning from when she joined the basketball team in elementary. Then she did not stop in highschool. And by college, at Cal Poly Pomona, studying Recreational Administration, she was the main point guard. And in 1986 and 1987, she was winning at the Women’s Championships.

Then, she graduated in 1988 and became a highschool basketball referee. In exactly four years, she officiated her first major basketball game. Restless, she took another training to be an NBA official, leading to her first and historic WNBA officiating in 1997.
After that, Violet Palmer moved from one successful assignment to the other. And then she landed the juiciest deal as an NBA referee. Yet in the midst of her busy schedule, this lady founded a camp that teaches the youth how to officiate games.
However, after a long and successful career as a referee, Ms Palmer had to retire because of a knee pain that refused to go away. She was only fifty-two at the time. Anyway her training camp is still functioning and she is still garnering awards for a job well done.
