BETTY SHABAZZ

Juneteenth is in six days and we can not but celebrate the women who were the strength behind famous activists. So, our first celebrant is Betty Shabazz, the wife of revolutionary and civil rights activist, Malcolm X. Some of us have not heard her name till today, but we all know Malcolm X.

Meet Betty X :-

Betty was born and bred in Detroit, Michigan. After high school, her college education in Alabama opened her eyes to racism . But she could not cope with it and went to New York instead, and became a nurse

Shortly after that, she met her husband 1956 and married him 1958. They were married for seven years because he was assassinated. And in those years, they had six daughters who mother Betty had to care for, when Malcolm went on his civil rights activities.

After Malcolm X:-

After her husband passed on, Betty became more active in the civil rights movement. That was also when his biography was published and the proceeds made their lives easier.

In spite of that, a funds were raised to help her with a house and get her daughters in school. Gradually however, she found herself again and ay became an active member of the parents association. Plus she started printing out and selling speeches of her late husband, Malcolm X.

That was not all because she received invitations from universities and organizations to share the ideologies of Malcolm. As time progressed and the children were more settled, Betty Shabazz went back to school for a degree in education.

Funds from the speeches, and other efforts, gave her family a chance to live well. This woman successfully raised six women to adulthood and even helped with raising her grandchildren.

Sadly, she died at the age of sixty-one, after a fire accident. Please say a kind word in the comments section for this strong woman.
