In 2019, the first coloured Miss Universe Iceland was crowned and her name is Birta Abiba Pórhallsdóttir. That historical night changed the history of pageants in Iceland forever. And she placed in the Top 10 at the Miss Universe 2019 when she was twenty years old.

How it went :-

Anyway, this is a brief gist of how her journey went and has been. In the first place, her Icelandic mother birthed her for her Congolese father making her a victim of racism. However, Birta was unfazed knowing that the best way to fight the racist verbal abuse and violence she suffered, was to excel. With her mother and Dad who stepped up, she is conquering the world.

And so, by the time Birta Abiba Pórhallsdóttir was passionate about reading and writing. By fourteen years old, she had taken up modelling, combining it with going to high school. That is where she horned her pageant skills and beat 21 other ladies on 21st August 2019 to become Miss Iceland.

Then on December 8th 2019, she beat 90 others to the Top 10 winners at Miss Universe in Atlanta, USA. And her story changed for the best. She even won Miss Grand Slam 2019, beating 423 women from all around the world.

Since then, the first coloured Miss Universe Iceland has become an international model for top brands in Milan. Then New York and of Paris. Yer when she is at home in Iceland, she is a volunteer worker for the Red Cross.
