In November 2006 deputy governor of Anambra state in South East Nigeria became the first ever female governor in Nigeria.
She was elected deputy governor in 2007. She served in this office for seven years and nine months. Three months in between, she was governor when her principal was impeached.
She got her education and training as a teacher from Kano and Gombe states; both located in the Northern part of Nigeria. She was a teacher in different states in Nigeria before she retired in 1991. By 2006 she delved into politics. This same year, she was chosen to be the running mate of Mr. Peter Obi. She was sixty-three years old.
