A doctoral graduate aged 83, Marie Fowler has emerged from Howard University, in It took her three years to accomplish this historical feat. Her doctorate degree is in Ministry.

Recently on this blog, we celebrated Dorothy Jeanius Tillman who got her doctoral degree at age seventeen. Now it is the other extreme with Marie Fowler. Conclusion: it is never too late or too early to strive for your goal, just be focused.

She did not think she could make it because of her age and the load of work. Especially as she already had a bachelor’s and two master’s degrees from Maple Springs Baptist Bible College. According to Fowler, if she can get a doctoral degree aged 83, why can’t you?

In addition, Marie remembered that her parents were illiterate because it was illegal for Africans to be literate. This was the main trigger for her from the start. She even taught her dad to write and sign his name. It was that serious.
