ETHIOPIA’S DIBABA SISTERS

The Dibaba sisters AKA “The fastest family on earth” are track and field stars from Ethiopia in the north of east Africa. These five sisters are famous for bringing home to Ethiopia, 24 medals and titles.

The sisters are in no particular order, Ejagayehu, Tirunesh, Genzebe, Derartu-Tulu, Melat and Anna Dibaba. Between five of them, they hold fifteen world track titles, four Olympic gold medals, three bronze medals and two silver medals.

Ejagayehu is the oldest of the five sisters aged forty-two, while Melat is the youngest, born in 1999. Derartu-Tulu the long distance champion and Olympian is their aunt. She is not part of the five, she is their inspiration.

Through the week, we will celebrate these special women who have contributed to putting their country on the world map. Because of these women, when there is a long distance race, Ethiopia is the accepted and expected winner.
