The world is still mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II as world leaders arrive London for her funeral and long lines populate all of UK at her coffin viewing.

A public holiday has already been announced by The United Kingdom to mark her legacy.

Despite criticism of the monarchy on social media in recent time, her monarchy marks the longest reign of peace and prosperity for the Great Britain so let’s explore the legacy of Queen Elizabeth the 2nd as a celebration of her life:

1952 – 1960

When she ascended the throne in 1952 after the death of her father, Queen Elizabeth II was only 25 years old. She was crowned queen of seven independent common wealth countries. During these years, she visited multiple common wealth nations, becoming the first monarch to do so. Despite many fretting for her safety during these travels, she remained adamant to perform these duties and hated being treated like a movie star as she felt head strong about her role as a world leader.

1961 – 1970

The 60s – 70s saw an acceleration of the decolonization of African and the Caribbean. Despite efforts to originally crush rebellions in colonies, the monarch eventually reached agreements to pull back on the reigns of power, granting independence to at least 16 former colonies.

1971 – 1980

More countries were granted independence during this decade and The Queen celebrated her silver jubilee.
She also made efforts to change interactions between the royals and the people by meeting with the crowds in an effort to connect with the people.

She showcased her outstanding diplomacy by supporting Zambian president Kenneth Kaunda during its dispute with Rhodesia. Her support eventually led to conciliation.

1981 – 1990

The 80s saw a shift in perception of Queen Elizabeth II as the royals became a source of drama and gossip after the marriage of Prince Charles to Princess Diana and his lusty affair with Camilla. There were four royal births, two royal weddings, one public marriage scandal and a palace break in.

The entire family was put up as a spectacle and perceptions of Queen Elizabeth as a fearful and formidable matriarch emerged.

1991 – 2000

In the 90s, almost all the marriages of The Queens children had broken down and she palace suffered a major fire incident.

Public criticism of the royal family grew after the death of Princess Diana but was softened after The Queen addressed the nation in a rare manner on Television.

2001 – 2010

In 2002, The Queen celebrated her Golden Jubilee which was unfortunately marred by the death of her sister and mother.

During this period, The Queen toured 70 cities in the United Kingdom.

Public perceptions were once again turning in her favor as the royal family received more positive publicity.

2011 – 2020

Queen Elizabeth visited The Republic of Ireland in 2011 in efforts to repair the relationship between Britain and Ireland, expressing genuine sympathy for the victims of the troubled Anglo-Irish relationship.

The Queen celebrated the birth of her great grand children by Prince Williams and Kate Middleton.

The royals also experienced modernized relationships by the marriage of Prince Harry to Megan Markle.

The Queen quickly approved the marriage with no drama however the relationship between the new couple and The British media quickly grew frosty.

2020 – date

After the death of her husband in 2021 and the pandemic, the health of The Queen was reportedly deteriorating and there were rumors about her heath in constant circulation in the media.

She eventually passed peacefully on the 8th of September 2022.
