FEBRUARY: BLACK HISTORY MONTH

Black History Month is celebrated in USA and Canada. It is dedicated to the history of Africans in diaspora. A celebration and remembrance of important African people and events. What ways have we made their sacrifices worth the trouble?

In UK and Ireland, the celebration is in October.

Also, every African who has contributed to the ease enjoyed by every person of colour in the world is remembered this February. The tragedies or victories of those people are celebrated. The changes and uplifting caused directly or indirectly by them is listed and mentioned.

However, for us on this blog, every month is African Women History Month. We celebrate every Afro woman who has contributed to and inspired every young, starryeyed, girl in the world.

And so here is a sample list of a few of such women all over the world. Serena Williams, Ma Sirleaf, Vanessa Williams, Tobi Amusan, Mary Ukech, Ama Ata Aido, Agbani Darego, Miriam Makeba, Jackie Appiah, Arya Star, Robin Rihanna Fenty, to mention a few.

The victories of these women is not only for themselves, it is for all human females. Yes, African girls get inspired; girls of other races get challenged to make a positive difference too. Girl power is our motto.
