AFRICAN FEMALE LEADERS: Mauritius(6)

It is delightful to realize that over ten women have been presidents in Africa, in the past twenty years. Now that is a start, no matter what. We believe that Africa will have more than thirty percent female presidents in another fifteen years.

Today our focus is on Ameenah Gurib-Fakim of Mauritius. She is the first elected female president of Mauritius in 2015. This professor became Mauritius’ sixth president, at age fifty-five. She ruled for three years.

A professor of Chemistry and owner of her own research institute, Ameenah has received many national and international awards in recognition of her academic contribution and research work to not only her country and university, but Africa as well. Some of the countries are France, UNESCO, Nigeria, Jordan, United Kingdom, Iceland, to mention a few.

Also, President Ameenah Gurib-Fakim is an author of over twenty-eight books. One of her books is the first African Herbal Pharmacopoeia. Do you know that this brilliant, beautiful Amazon served on the Science Advisory Committee of Food and Agriculture Organisation, Rome?

We congratulate you Professor Gurib-Fakim. You are a worthy daughter of the land. Hip! Hip! Hip! Hurraaaah!! Drop a star for her in the comments section below.
