AFRICAN WOMEN LEADERS (9)

Mama Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia is our trailblazer as the first elected female president in all of Africa. Mama as she is fondly called came into power at a crucial time in the history of Laiberia.

The expectations of African motherhood came to play in the rulership of Ms. Sirleaf in Liberia and Africa.

First, she came in just after the civil war that ravaged Liberia. That war dragged on for fourteen long years. That was 1989 to 2003. The ECOWAS brotherhood of countries halted the pillage and an election brought Sirleaf to power.

What was her assignment? To bring back peace and stability to a broken country. An assignment she shouldered bravely. Ellen Johnson brought back every stability to her beloved country. She left it greater than she met it.

Though the responsibility of.bringing back peace, love, sanity and progress to Liberia was scary, the worthy daughter took it on. And of course, effectively and efficiently made Liberia great again. The assignment took her twelve long years.

By the way, minding Liberia was not all she did. She had to mind other African affairs as our mother Africa. She never complained or grumbled. Ms Sirleaf travelled Africa and the world playing the role of leader, mother and adviser.

When she handed over a sane country, she was eighty years old. Thank you Mama Sirleaf for showing the way.
