Mrs. Leon made history as the first of several in Jamaica. She was the first woman to become minister from two different political parties. First woman to chair the national political party in Jamaica and first producer of local beauty products.

Now let us take the achievements of this dazzling woman one by one, starting with her career.

After studying Chemistry in the United States, Rose Leon birthed the first line of locally made beauty products. She also founded a Beauty Culture school with her husband. Rose was always well made-up and dressed to the nines, a true ambassador of looking beautiful.

She ran that school of beauty, till 1999 when she was murdered at age eighty-five.

Next is Ms. Huie- Leon’s political career which took off fully when she was thirty-two years old. She retired from politics when she was sixty-nine years old. Now that was after a whooping, successful political career. Thirty-seven years of her life in service to Jamaica.

So in those thirty-seven years, Rose was councillor, minister, party chairman, member of House of Representatives, mayor and special adviser to the minister of social security.

Finally, Rose was able to combine four roles successfully. The roles of wife, mother, entrepreneur and leader. An incredible woman who lived life to the fullest. That is who we remember, how we want to remember her.
