FEMALES IN BLACK HISTORY ROCKS!

Still in the mood of the “Black history month”, we can also share some insights on histories we bet you weren’t aware of! There are lots of highlights in history celebrating black women for notable things in different areas and I dare say that we have all rights to wear or pride on our sleeves.

Let’s dive into some!

1. When we talk about surveillance, it is almost impossible to skip the closed circuit television otherwise known as CCTV. These has helped in many areas including security and guess what, it was invented by a black woman! So next time you spot a CCTV, remember to raise your glass to Marie Van Brittan Brown.

2. Hattie McDaniel was the first black woman to win an Oscar award. Some pretty immense achievement right here!

3. Let’s travel back in history, there was actually a time when the only set of brushes available to hair and clothing was made from animal’s hair, but thanks to Lyda Newman our very own black queen invented the synthetic brush which is widely used for a number of things today!

4. What would it actually be like if we couldn’t straighten and curl our hair? It might be an indifference to some but oh what a hassle it’ll be for others! So next time you use a curling/straightening iron, do remember to thank Theora Stephens the intelligent black woman who invented this!

5. Toddlers aren’t even left out either. Dear Mothers and caregivers, it’s time to appreciate our black queen Lula O Carter for inventing the “potty” to make kids comfortable as well as to potty train them.

There is still so much to uncover together! Until next time dear reader
