On Saturday the twenty-sixth of August 2023, Kenya’s Mary Moraa did not disappoint her people because she won the gold at the 800m race at the ongoing World Athletics Championship games in Budapest.

Mary’s winning streak began in Nairobi at the age of seventeen. She won a silver medal at the World Youth Championships 400m race in Kenya in 2017. Since then, there has been no looking back. She moved on to longer races at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham where she won a gold for the 400m race. And the rest is history.

Mary was brought up by her grandparents, having lost both parents as a toddler. Athletics got her the scholarship for a much needed education.
