With heavy hearts, Africa mourns the passing of our South African guitar girl, Zahara yesterday the 11th of December 2023. Born Bulelwa Mkutukana on the 9th of November 1988, Zahara has been in hospital for a few weeks before bowing out to a protracted ailment.

Our beloved Zahara came to limelight in 2011. She sold over a hundred thousand copies in the first two weeks. The talented beauty has also garnered multiple music awards since then. Bulelwa actually began singing on the streets of East London, England, where she was born.

She sang what she called Afro soul in her native language, Xhosa and in English.

Her charming bright smiles and music endeared her to many. She was only thirty-six years old. We will miss her so much.

Please drop a heart for this young soul who shared her life with us and left us at dawn.
