LADIES AT CAF AWARDS 2023

Ladies from South Africa and Nigeria won awards at the CAF Awards night on Sunday 10th December 2023. Coach Desiree Eliis, Asisat Oshoala and Chiamaka Nnadozie have been in international space, making Africa proud.

How? Winning awards, excelling in their football careers and being scandal free. That combination is a feat. Ask any celebrity.

On Sunday night, Asisat won Africa Female Footballer of the Year for the sixth time, Coach Ellis won Women’s Coach of the Year 2023 and Nnadozie won Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year 2023.

Brief history

Africa embraced serious, competitive female football in the 1970s. Mainly in Senegal and South Africa. However, informal female matches began as far back as the 1860s again in South Africa. In many streets all over Africa, girls played with their brothers and male friends. No one took them seriously. Then the 90s came and things became different, more professional.

These three winners amongst other great women footballers who we have celebrated on this blog, have inspired many young girls in Africa and beyond, to pursue their passion, excel at it and never give up. Vital qualities for today’s world.

If you agree with pushing your girl child to excel at her chosen passion, type yes in the comments section below.
