ANOTHER AFRICAN UPSET @MISS EARTH 2023

Zimbabwe got another placement in her third international pageant, three times in a row. Courtney Tadiwanashe Jongwe made the Miss Earth International top twenty list.

This is evidence that the southern African country is doing what needs to be done to be placed in every pageant since Miss Planet International 2022. It is as if that was the desired win which has made them realize they can win an international crown.

Therefore Zimbabwe will continue to push and strive till one international title becomes theirs and of course ensure that the titles keep rolling in after that.

South Africa’s Belindé Schreuder made it to the top twelve and Mauritius was with Zimbabwe on the top twenty list. Well, that South Africa is placed is a given. It has become a natural expectation over the years. Their world titles and placements are numerous from several decades ago.

Mauritius too to a large extent is a regular at pageant placements. Their representatives have also over the years, made their appearances at international pageants count. Hateefa Low Kom aged twenty-five was a strong contender from the start too.

For the rest twelve African countries that participated in this pageant, they were not only unplaced, they had no special awards. Do they seem to have forgotten looks are not all judges want these days? The ladies get more stunning at every pageant. “They have to bring more than looks and academic certificates to the pageant stage”, says a veteran beauty queen.

Zimbabwe has gradually become a force to be reckoned with in the pageant world. The first time we were forced to really look at them was when Zimbabwe was first runner-up at Miss Planet 2022. What? We all went back to view the pageant on YouTube from start to finish.

Some people called it a stroke of luck. However, Zimbabwe has shown in the last two world pageants that they were more than just lucky. Jongwe was not just placed, she made it to the semis. And that people, is huge. Twenty-one -year old Courtney Jongwe made it count.
