AFRICAN QUEENS @MISS WORLD 2022/3 (2)

Still on African ladies at the ongoing Miss World contest in India – 18th February to March 9th 2024. We present Ms. Arek Abraham Albino of South Sudan, Veralyn Vonleh of Liberia, Fatou L’eau of Senegal, of Guinea and Rgat Afewerki Ybrah of Ethiopia.

After an absence of three years, Ethiopia is in India to win the beauty crown. Ethiopia made top twenty when they made their debut appearance in 2003. This was their highest point at the pageant till they took a break in 2019. Now Ethiopia is back with Ms. Ybrah as their representative.

Rgat Afewerki Ybrah is a fashion model. She has graced the covers of international fashion magazines and international runways.

Also, Princess Ybrah won Best Fashion Designer Award Africa at this ongoing Miss World Pageant. How many of us thought of the queen of Sheba when we saw Ethiopia in the race?

Following this Sister queen is Makia Bamba from Guinea. This queen has a degree in Hotel Management. She is also a model and fashion consultant. Several caps is evidence of competence, don’t you agree?

Another African queen, Ms Abraham Albino of South Sudan is a fashion model. She hopes to make her country proud. Back in 2012, her queen sister, Yu Wenxia made top seven and won the Queen of Africa title at the pageant.

Our next focus is Fatou L’eau of Senegal. Ms. L’eau believes it is a privilege to be a black woman. That people is what we call, ‘ black and proud ‘. She is a model.

Next on our radar is Veralyn Vonleh from Liberia. She is a graduate of Business Administration. Michael Jackson’s song ‘Liberian Girl,’ comes to mind at this time. Actually, Veralyn’s focus is far from the music legend. She is more interested in sharing sanitary items to women around her, who can not afford to buy them.

By the way, she took over from a previous queen who held the title for five full years! How is that possible? Was it that they did not hold another pageant for five years or that particular reign was slated for five years? What are your thoughts?
