FEMALE AFRICAN PRESIDENTS: South Africa (2)

We continue the celebration of African women leaders this episode . From the women who have served as president the longest, to the ones who spent the shortest duration as president. We have ten women presidents altogether. Amazons, lighting the path for future female generations.

So, Ivy Florence Matsepe from South Africa is our next celebrant. She was the first of several prominent positions. Ivy is the first ever South African woman to hold the position of president in the history of South Africa.

A doctorate holder from Rutgers University in Newark, USA, she was stand-in president between Thabo Mbeki and K. Motlanthe. She served for less than 24 hours in September, 2008.

Before her political life, Ivy was on exile for 25 years. She was a teacher and university lecturer in those days of exile. From Zimbabwe to Namibia and even to the United States of America. There she worked as a professor and obtained her doctorate.

Finally, she was the first black, female chairperson of the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC). And the first black , female chairperson of SENTECH; a signal distribution firm in South Africa.
