GOVERNOR GENERAL: DR. LA GRENADE

Cécile La Grenade became the second woman in the history of Grenada, to become Governor-General. She was appointed by Queen Elizabeth II since 2013.

Who is Cécile La Grenade?

Cecile comes from a pedigree of leaders of the country from both sides of her family. From her maternal grandmother, Mary Louise, who was the first female in British Islands legislative council to her cousin, Maurice Bishop. He was the first Prime Minister of Grenada. Her grandfather’s goddaughter was the first female governor general of Grenada over fifty years ago.

So, we are not surprised that the food scientist displayed leadership qualities that qualified for this exalted position. Before she became a food scientist, Cécile obtained a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. Later on got a master’s and then doctorate degree. With these qualifications, she was able to effect positive changes as a civil servant in the health, agricultural sectors of government.

Dr. La Grenade’s promise to focus on employment and growth of small businesses has been kept to an extent. It is her good leadership that has contributed to ranking Grenada as a country to live comfortably in.

We wish Dr. La Grenade a successful end of tenure.
